An open letter to Oak Class:

Boys and girls don't be scared

from the stories you may have heard.

I'm just writing because I want to say,

I'm thinking of you all each day.

I know you're all looked after in your homes,

just remember you're not alone.

Please use this time carefully,

have fun & learn creatively.

Don't read now because you'll have a test,

instead let books take you on a quest.

Use the time for a new skill,

let new learning be a thrill.

Don't idle the hours with wasteful things,

Enjoy the fun new learning brings.

And hopefully it won't be long,

until we're all back where we belong!

Welcome to Oak Class and what an exciting start to the year we've made already! As part of our geography and DT elements of our 'Home, Sweet, Home' topic, we've visited Diglake Farm, been on the Ferry Across the Mersey in Liverpool as well as visiting the Tate Gallery. We've classified biscuits, hunted for minibeasts, made incredible persuasive leaflets and even created brilliant Lancashire recipes.

We have now enjoyed and learned a lot, first hand about our history focus of the Victorians. We've had a school day back in time, where we were able to dress as Victorians, learn Morris Dancing and even play with some Victorian artefacts too.

This term we have learned to 'Go with the Flow,' and found out all about the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings. We met a real life Viking called 'Olaf'! He offered 16 silver pieces for Mrs Tjaveondja! Our class have read 'How to Train Your Dragon' and designed and created dragon eyes from clay, 3D dragons from clay and  long boats from wood and glue guns!

Useful Information

PE
Children need PE kits every Monday and this should include kit for outdoors. Swimming is alternate weeks so please ensure your child has a full swim kit including swimming caps as per their week.

Home Reading
Please make sure that your Home Reading Log is in school every day. We will check, sign and add a note into the journal. Reading is so important to your child's progress in school, great readers, make great writers!

Home Learning
Home learning is handed out every Friday and consists of a Maths or English and Spelling task. This should be returned to class no later than Tuesday morning so that it can be marked. All Home Learning is a consolidation of work taught in class.

Times Tables Rockstars
Your child should have received their login details for TTRS, which is a fantastic way to aid their times table knowledge. There's even the option to play against each other or challenge your teacher too. Follow the link at: https://ttrockstars.com/login

Should you need to speak to myself of Mrs Lawrenson then please grab us before or after school, alternatively you can book an appointment at the office.
