Modern Foreign Language Vision Statement

Here at Pinfold amamos el Espanol, so we have chosen to teach the children Spanish. Our staff have more experience of speaking Spanish than any other second language. We understand the importance of children learning a second language from an early age. Research shows that learning a second language helps improve people's thinking skills and memory abilities.  'Because the language centers in the brain are so flexible, learning a second language can develop new areas of your mind and strengthen your brain's natural ability to focus.'

We sing songs in Spanish in Willow class to prepare them for the curriculum framework for Key Stage 2.

We believe learning a second language in our school will enable our children to have more opportunities in the world. As stated on the government website:

'Learning a foreign language is a liberation from insularity and provides an opening to other cultures. A high-quality languages education should foster pupils’ curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world. The teaching should enable pupils to express their ideas and thoughts in another language and to understand and respond to its speakers, both in speech and in writing. It should also provide opportunities for them to communicate for practical purposes, learn new ways of thinking and read great literature in the original language.'

What they learn here will ensure the language centers in their brains are open to learn a different language in secondary school.
