Personal, Social and Health Education, including, Relationships and Sex Education (PSHE and RSE)

Personal, Social and Health Education, including, Relationships and Sex Education (PSHE with RSE) Vision Statement

We are passionate about teaching children about personal, social and health education (PSHE), which now has RSE added to its title (above). We welcome the addition of ' relationships and sex' to the title.

We recognise our children need extra nurturing after the trauma of COVID 19 and the current lock down measures. We have created a new policy, bespoke to our school and our needs. We have used the PSHE Association resources and national and local guidance to develop a four year cumulative overview.

To address our school needs, being mainly white and in a rural location we have decided to teach the children all about diversity through an intensive programme of assemblies using the work of Andrew Moffat as guidance. This has enabled us to purchase many inspiring and thought provoking picture books that will lead in to those sometimes difficult questions that arise around gender, sexuality, colour of skin and family set up. We intend to prepare our children for life in our Modern Britain.

Part of our curriculum intent is to teach our children- not only to tolerate difference, but to celebarate it and 'challenge discrimination'.

The term 'No Outsider' comes from a statement form Desmond Tutu in 2004;

There are no outsiders in our school; to quote the South African social rights activist Desmond Tutu (2004), 'Everyone is an insider, no matter their beliefs, whatever their colour, gender or sexuality'.

We are made for goodness. We are made for love. We are made for friendliness. We are made for togetherness. We are made for all of the beautiful things that you and I know. We are made to tell the world that there are no outsiders. All are welcome: black, white, red, yellow, rich, poor, educated, not educated, male, female, gay, straight, all, all, all. We all belong to this family, this human family,"
